Louis Comments..

A boring match for all. Be it, a Liverpool fan, Aston Villa supporter or even a neutral who just wanted to watch a football match. Total boreness throughout the game. Both sides didn't trouble their opposite goalkeeper much.

I was quite surprised to see Alonso on the bench in the beginning and Mascherano starting in place of him. I guess, Rafa wanted to give him a chance to prove himself. He didn't start that well, struggled with Momo in the middle and Liverpool can't get hold of the ball in the early minutes of the game.

We were passing, keep possession later in the game but we didn't do anything else. We didn't create any chances which gave Villa's defence problems. We just passing at the back, Riise to Agger, Agger to Carragher, Carragher to Finnan and back to Reina and the whole cycle again. They looked lazy and didn't have much movement in the middle.

Steven Gerrard was not performing to his best. He seems to have hurt himself during the game and didn't want to stretch to his fullest. I guess he knew himself. I was wondering, was he afraid to get injured? I didn't know, but somehow, something was amiss with our captain's performance. His passing was poor and didn't look to inspire his team-mates to play better and to be driven on.

The team wasn't playing well and I could see that the players seems to be in holiday mood. The long 2 weeks break didn't benefit them at all. The attack was disappointing, mifield was poor until Alonso came in. Defensively, we were fine. However, the overall play of the thing was extremely devastating.

Majority of the time, I was scratching my head and wondering whether Liverpool was playing football or just a routine passing training. Rafa knew that we didn't play well and said that the only positive thing was the point. I just don't understand, other teams can win without playing well, but we just can't? Rafa really needs to do something to our league form. The big question is why our performance is so poor in the league while in Europe, we seems to be another team?

Arsenal slipped and we didn't take the advantage of cutting down the gap. Yes, we cut down to one point with them having a game in hand. It's really frustrating to see us competing for just 3rd in the league while Manchester United and Chelsea are chasing for the title. Liverpool Football Club should be up there, fighting out with the best teams in England and Europe, no doubt about it. Can Rafa do it? Can our players do it? This is still a huge question mark on me.

Hey Louis`,

Enjoying your blog mate. I've added a banner link to my site (http://tlr78.blogspot.com) for ya. It's not great, so if you have a banner, I'll chuck it on. If you have one that 120 x 60 that would be great.

In my opinion in regards to our League versus Cup form, Rafa is a very astute tactician when placed against one particular opponent. He is able to sit and work them out and then implement a game plan to execute his plans. He seems to motivate the players as well when it comes to 'one off' matches.

But when it comes to the league it's a little different. Rather than playing one particular opponent, it's actually a long hard grind with similar tactics from week to week with different opponents.

The preparation difference between the two are enormous and I think Rafa has definite strengths in Cup games where it's a live or die mentality against a defined opponent.

He needs to get his head around how to coach in the League quick smart though!

Thanks trl.

Really appreciate it. I haven't got a banner yet. Will do one really soon.

You are right. Rafa is no doubt one of the best tacticians in the world but I guess he needs to learn more of the English game and hopefully able to master the league like he did at Spain.

Cheers.

Yeah, it's definitely a 'different kettle of fish".

I've just updated my blog with a new template.
I'm not sure about it, but we'll see.
